Jenny Lewis

Poet’s House Pamphlets was set up by Jenny Lewis in 2019 as an imprint of Mulfran Press, run by Leona Medlin, which publishes Jenny’s collaborative work with the exiled Iraqi poet, Adnan Al-Sayegh. Originally conceived in the mould of Leonard and Virginia Woolf’s ‘artisan’ Hogarth Press, the principles behind Poet’s House Pamphlets reflect Jenny’s own interest in design and production values acquired through her training in Fine Art at the Ruskin School of Art and in Graphic Design at Ealing School of Art, where she met Frances Kiernan. What she is looking for is distinction in all aspects of the pamphlets – the poetry itself as well as every element of design and production.

Jenny is a poet, playwright, songwriter and translator who teaches poetry at Oxford University. She has had seven plays and poetry cycles performed at major UK theatres including the Leicester Haymarket, the Royal Festival Hall, the Polka Theatre, London (for children) and Pegasus Theatre, Oxford where Jenny was a Core Writing Tutor for 20 years. Jenny has published four poetry collections including Gilgamesh Retold (Carcanet Classics, 2018) which was a New Statesman Book of the Year, a Carcanet Book of the Year and an LRB Bookshop Book of the Week on publication. Jenny has also published three chapbooks from Mulfran Press in English and Arabic with Adnan Al-Sayegh which are part of the award-winning, Arts Council-funded ‘Writing Mesopotamia’ project aimed at fostering friendship between English and Arabic-
speaking communities.
